Each Contestant entered competes in the Dancing Preliminary Competition. Directors submit a 1-minute track with music and a separate 2-minute track for use in the Talent Showcase if the Contestant is a finalist. Music is submitted following the Competition Music Requirements and Encoding Instructions.
Dancing Preliminaries are held on a closed set and timed
(one (1) minute maximum). Costuming is optional. A wooden dance floor, 16” by 16” is provided. Finalists selected at preliminaries will perform in the Talent Showcase, an open set, timed competition (two (2) minute maximum). Judging is on dancing technique, skill and casting potential.
An additional note regarding Singing: Directors should help select appropriate music and listen to contestants’ singing tracks sent to IMTA for pre-judging. Contestants should avoid singing a cappella, avoid long musical intros, and avoid pop songs that do not show off the voice. The song sent as the pre- judging selection does not have to be the song sung for competition, but should best reflect a contestant’s vocal quality and ability to sing.
